Department of Chemistry

Welcome to the Department of Chemistry, SVNIT Surat! It is my pleasure to welcome you, on behalf of all current and past members of the Department of Chemistry, SVNIT, Surat. The Department of Chemistry has established in 1961-1962, which imparted education of engineering chemistry to B. Tech.–I and B. Tech.-II (Chemical Engineering) students. The department of Chemistry has 14 distinguished faculties trained at renowned Institutes in India and abroad. The students and faculty members of the Department explore a broad range of chemical sciences, create new forms of molecules and nanoscale materials with controlled properties, and develop miniaturize tools to identify chemical species with simplified procedures– to the benefit of science and society. The Department of Chemistry is dedicated to generate scholars with fundamental and applied research in the chemical sciences and build an inclusive learning environment.
The Department of Chemistry offers Five Year Integrated M.Sc in Chemistry and Ph.D in Chemistry. Our Five Year Integrated M.Sc program provides opportunities to students in various branches of chemistry including organic, inorganic, physical, analytical, materials, and computational chemistry, thereby students will get outstanding training for various career paths including chemical industry, academia, research lab, government, and national laboratories, testing quality assurance labs as well as other fields. The Department of Chemistry offers customized academic planning, advising, and research opportunities. Students receive outstanding experience by doing summer internships and short-term research fellowships at various reputed National and International Research Laboratories. Students of our department are actively participating in various summer internships at reputed National and International Institutes or through financial support from various research grants. In addition, the faculty members of the Department of Chemistry have received prestigious awards such as Visiting Scientists, Visiting Professors, and Brainpool Scientist. Moreover, some of our faculty members have been elected as the Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), Royal Society of Chemistry, London, Fellow of the Indian Chemical Society, and Fellow of Society of Pesticide Science India. Faculty members of the Department of Chemistry have also served as Guest Editors for various special issues, International Conference Organizers, and are actively involved in outreach initiatives in the chemical science community. The faculty members attract substantial financial support for their research activities from both governmental and private agencies. The academic achievements of the department are well reflected by publishing the research work in various reputed journals and more than 52 PhD’s produced in a wide spectrum of the chemical sciences.
