FAQs - Central Library

Question 1. Who are authorized to use the SVNIT Central Library?

All students, faculty members and staff (working) of the Institute are authorized to use the Library. Student alumni, retired faculty and staff members and visiting faculties may also use the Central Library only for reading purposes and may use the hard copies of books, magazines, dissertations and journals with prior permission from the Faculty Incharge of the Central Library. However, access to online resources is not permitted. See Library Membership.


Question 2. Can a bound volume of journal be issued to a member?

Yes, bound volumes of journals can be issued to the faculty members and research scholars for overnight from the Text Book Section. Fine for late return of journals will, however, be charged as applicable for the text books.


Question 3. Can a current (unbound) issue of journals be issued to a Library member?

No, current (unbound) issue of journals are not issued to any category of library user.


Question 4. Can I bring my personal books or other reading materials to the Library?

No. Users are not allowed to bring their personal books or other reading materials to the Library. However, they can bring their personal materials to the segregated portion of the Library Reading Room at the 1st Floor.


Question 5. Can I use mobile phones and laptops in the Library?

Yes, you can use mobile phones and laptops in the Library, but please ensure that their usage is limited to study purposes only. Any other use of mobile phones and laptops is strictly discouraged.


Question 6. Is it allowed to leave personal belongings, like laptops, notebooks, and water bottles, in the library overnight?

We do not permit the overnight storage of personal belongings in the library. Please be aware that the library staff is not liable for any loss or damage to personal items left unattended.


Question 7. How long I can hold issued items with me?

Question 8. Does the library charge fines for issued books returned after their due date?

Yes, the library charges one-rupee fine per day for each book or any other item after their due date.


Question 9. How can I renew my books?

You can renew your books by visiting the library with the items to be renewed. Alternatively, you can renew them online through the OPAC, but online renewals are allowed only once, and it must be done before the due date. After the due date, online renewal is not permitted, and you must visit the library with the items to be renewed.
