The Department of Electronics Engineering was established in the year 1982. The department offers B. Tech. program with an intake of 170, M. Tech (Communication Systems and VLSI & Embedded System) with an intake of 30 each and Ph. D. with a current strength of 70 research scholars. The department also offers Minor degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering for UG students to explore interdisciplinary knowledge. The research is carried out in various fields of Electronics and Communication Engineering such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, signal processing, wireless communication, microwave and optical communication, sensors, micro-nano devices, etc. Currently we have 27 skilled and experienced faculty members of various domains of Electronics Engineering.
Department is facilitated with well-equipped laboratories for UG students such as basic electronics lab, electronics system design lab, digital electronics lab, embedded system lab, basic communication lab, microwave and optical communication lab, multimedia lab, simulation lab and project lab. In addition to this, the department has advanced research labs like VLSI design and TCAD lab, communication research lab, sensor research lab, machine learning & computer vision lab, Nanoscale Device and Circuit Research lab, 5G and Beyond lab useful to our PG students. Department is growing in all dimensions in terms of research facility, student strength, infrastructure, advanced teaching/learning methodologies, and industrial collaboration. Department has organized around 27 Short Term Training Programs and 6 International Conferences in last five years. Department is progressing with more than 500 publications in reputed National/International journals and conferences. In last five years department has set a good record of 12 patent & design grants and research projects worth of more than 2 crores funded by various agencies like DST, SERB, MeitY, ISRO and SMDP. We have collaborations with industries like TCS, Neutroon and ISRO.
We are in the process of extending the research facilities in the department by developing a VLSI testing lab and speech processing lab under the proposed perspective plan. The faculties and the research scholars are collaborating and working within the department, with other departments of the institute and also with the researchers around the globe.
The department has enthusiastic UG and PG students. Their aspiring minds has been helpful in taking the department to new heights. Their placement record has been improving year by year, most of our M.Tech. students are associated with renowned industries for their internship in the second year of their curriculum. Not only the research scholars and PG students are involved in the research activities but B.Tech. students also participate in various competitions and achieve appreciable results. We are rigorously putting our efforts to establish a bright culture and space for research and startups. The department encourages student activities under different chapters like IETE Student Forum (ISF), IEEE Student Chapter. With the help of these chapters, the students learn different management skills like proposing the event, arranging the relevant activities, communicating with professionals across the nation and abroad, coordinating with the team members, handling finances etc. These chapters help in overall development of students of all cadres where they are provided with an excellent opportunity to learn and create what they inculcate. Mentors are provided to them who guide and help them overcome challenges faced throughout the completion of the activities.
The Department has a support system in place for students attending Engineering Conferences/workshops/project exhibitions in peer colleges, whether it is to present papers/project results or to imbibe valuable professional development opportunities. There is also funding through various agencies for students whose projects have an innovative and entrepreneurial focus. Students are encouraged to participate in Cultural, Sports and Community Service Programs for their holistic development. Our Alumnae work in a wide range of domains in Corporate, Industries, and Government and PSU sectors. A significant percentage of our graduates go for higher studies at universities in India and abroad. The department continuously monitors and upgrades Skill Enhancement Programs which are collaborative and interdisciplinary which facilitates our graduates to excel in engineering innovation and life-long learning.
