About ChES

The Chemical Engineering Society was instituted on 16th January 2014. Affiliated to the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), ChES aims to spread knowledge and experience to the future chemical engineers about chemical engineering education and its applications. The faction provides a platform for the chemical engineering community of SVNIT where they can discuss, plan, execute and debug their problems among their peers. Events and seminars conducted by ChES focus on both building the public understanding of technical issues and the individual curiosity of the enthusiasts.

Mission

● Promote excellence in chemical engineering education and practise. ● Advance the development and exchange of relevant knowledge and ideas. ● Facilitate public understanding of technical issues. ● Integrate the upliftment of society by providing awareness about different technical situations. ● Anticipate, recognise and evaluate hazardous conditions and practises affecting people, property and the environment, develop and evaluate appropriate strategies for the same.

Events

  1. Siphon: Siphon is the annual departmental fest of the Chemical Engineering Society, SVNIT. It is a two day fest, organised in the first month of even semester. Events under Siphon are planned to improve the general chemical knowlege of the masses through games like Murder-Mystery, Bid-Wisely, The Lucky Element, Chemical Tambola. Other events like Starch Walk, Plasti-Psycho are pure fun games with a chemical twist. Many of the events have cash prizes up for grabs.
  2. Eureka : Eureka-the journey from raw thinking & imagination to a properly designed innovation! It began in 2018 as a research competition initiative by Chemical Engineering Society (ChES) , SVNIT where teams with different thought processes, innovations compete with each other on a common platform to solve different problems after performing meticulous research work on their problem statements. Along with research, this initiative aims to promote a sense of cooperation, coordination & patience among its participants.
  3. Software Workshop &Flowsheeting Competition :Software Workshops like DWSIM are organised to get students acquainted with the simulation of flowsheets followed by a flowsheet designing competition to give them a hands-on experience .
  4. Cordial Convo : The Alumni are invited to share their experiences thus enlightening the juniors about the obstacles they faced during their journey and guide them .
  5. Alchemy - The Manufacturing Quest : The event aims to upskill the manufacturing of products along with learning about the use, harm and other technicalities involved during the process with least possible cost.
  6. Webinars : ChES organizes webinars ranging from career guidance to interactive sessions to motivate and bring the audience across thevast domain of chemical engineering. Some of the webinars conducted in past years by the alumni, guest speakers and organizations are:
    - Resume and skill building in collaboration with WiseUp Communications.
    - Interactive Session on Application of Engineering in Real Life.
    - Entrepreneurship through the eyes of a Chemical Engineer.
  7. Internship and Placement talk : These talks are organized to help the junior batches to know about the career opportunities offered on and off campus for the Chemical Engineering Undergraduates, where the final year batch recounts their experiences of being recruited, the milieu in which students are immersed during interviews, and much more.
