Hello ! I am Devesh C Jinwala, Professor in Computer Engineering at the Department of Computer Engineering, Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT), Surat, India. I also serve as an Adjunct Professor in Computer Science and Engineering, at IIT Jammu.
In the past, I have served as Professor on deputation in Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Jammu (July 2018 - Dec 2019) - the tenure included me serving as Dean(Faculty Affairs) at IIT Jammu and as the Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Jammu. During my sabbatical from SVNIT, Surat, I also served as a Visiting Professor, Daniel Felix Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science, University of Denver, Denver, USA in the period (July 2016 - June 2017) - http://ritchieschool.du.edu/about/faculty-staff.
I have also shouldered numerous other administrative responsibilities including being Dean (Research & Consultancy), Dean(Faculty Welfare), Professor InCharge International Affairs at SVNIT, Head (Computer Science and Engineering) at IIT Jammu, Head(Department of Computer Engineering) at SVNIT and others, the details of which can be looked up on my website.
I have been the PI/co-PI in seven Sponsored Research Projects as shown elsewhere on this website.
My research focus mainly is in Information Security & Privacy in Wireless Sensor Networks but I also focus on General Information Security & Privacy, Searchable Encryption, Machine Learning for Security, Software Security; and Software Requirements and Formal Specifications.
I am fortunate to have been bestowed with the following awards:(1) ACM Senior Member (2) IEEE Senior Member (C) Appreciation Certificate for developing MS Cyber Security program and for dedication in research and teaching, from University of Denver, USA, 2017 (3) Appreciation Certificate for Contributions in Faculty Development, Staff and Human Resource Development and for Contributions to the Vision of IIT Jammu, from IIT Jammu, 2021 (4) Recognition of Service Award Certificate in Appreciation for Contributions to the ACM as Faculty Sponsor from ACM, 2014, (5) For pioneering contributions in kick starting the Management Information Systems specialization at the MBA program at the Veer Narmad South Gujarat University.
I have a Ph D in Computer Engineering, having carried out my research work at SVNIT, Surat, in close association with Space Application Center, Indian Space Research Organization, Ahmedabad.
On the personal front, my wife Deepti is an M. Com and employed with Life Insurance Corporation of India, whereas our son Aakar is employed as a Computer Science Professsional with PriceLine, being based at Stamford, USA.
My peripheral interests lie in activities that include Travel, Spiritualism, Yoga, Cycling and have pedalled more than 70000 kms since 2002. I also cherish following games like Cricket and Tennis, reading (all types of literary/fiction works) and watching movies of the pre-1980 period. I also love writing travel reviews and have the Level 6 Contributor and Attraction Expert Level 9 badges with readership of more than 55000 on Trip Advisor.
